WSET LEVEL 1 AWARD IN SPIRITS

A beginner level introduction to spirits for those starting a career in the industry or pursuing an interest in spirits.

What you’ll learn?

By the end of the course you’ll be able to taste and describe spirits using a globally recognised approach, identify important styles of spirits and know the raw materials and production methods that define them.

Entry requirements:

There are no entry requirements for this qualification.  Candidates must be a minimum of 18 years old.

Program:

• The basic principles of spirit production
• The main types and styles of spirits
• Factors affecting the flavour of spirits
• How to describe spirits using the WSET Level 1 Systematic Approach to Tasting Spirits® (SAT)
• Tutored tasting of 12 spirits using SAT®

Course delivery:

Hybrid format (Zoom/recording × Classroom)

The course consists of a 4-hour online Zoom session (with recording access)/ or just a recording, a 2-hour in-person tasting session, a mock test, and a 45-minute closed-book examination.

The course is delivered in English with Polish commentary if needed.

All course materials are provided at the start of the course – either as a printed textbook or an e-book.

Assessment

Assessment is through a closed-book exam consisting of 30 multiple-choice questions in English, to be completed within 45 minutes. A minimum mark of 70% is required to pass.

To give candidates an idea of the types of questions that may appear, this section includes 10 sample questions. The actual examination consists of 30 questions similar to those linked below:

All students who pass the examination will receive a WSET certificate and lapel pin.

Price:

1700 PLN (VAT 23% included)

The price covers: online/classroom tuition, study materials, workbook delivery and the examination fee.

Instalment payment option available: first instalment – 850 PLN (payable upon enrolment), second instalment – 850 PLN (payable one month later).

Resit fee: 300 PLN

• Enrollment is currently open on a rolling basis.
• Dates of the classroom sessions (tasting, exam) will be announced soon.
• Classroom sessions will start in April 2026 and will take place in three cities: Gdańsk, Warsaw, and Kraków.

* When registering, please select the exam date – 1 April 2026 (working date, the final date will be confirmed later).

Notification will be made in the 10 working days prior to the planned start date of the course.
